He had been repeatedly in Santiago de Compostela. He had visited the spectacular and grandiose always Obradoiro Square.

The visit was novel. It was only recently that could be performed, because until a few years ago could only access covers which estudiasen Theology, the visit was without a guide, and, also, debido a lo peligroso de la misma había que firmar un documento en el que el visitante se hacía responsable en caso de producirse algún accidente.

Once Gelmírez got to the Palace a few minutes we were inside watching. It seemed we were in the High Middle Ages. Not for nothing more than a millennium that the stones had been placed at that location.

And ... we started the beautiful adventure. While it certainly lasts. The climb was to raise 103 echelons.

When you reach the end of the routed, I could see one of the most spectacular views you've seen throughout my life, although weather increased hardness .... It seemed that the nature or bruixas not want our eyes admire such beauty. The umbrella made their appearance and the wind kicked. The position was hard: on the one hand, clear explanations, cultured and quiet of our guide, obviously, must be used to make the visit in similar conditions on many occasions; other, the height at which we were and what resbalizado of exterior stairs that were in tension was; a dangerous slip and fall could occur at any time; rain and strong wind obviously did nothing but worsen the situation. We think take shelter until the weather abated ...

View covers covers the city of Santiago from the Cathedral

But the scenery was so beautiful that we watched our eyes were blinded. A breathtaking landscape. Only. Absorbent. We were shocked at such beauty. The tour on the heights of the Cathedral of Santiago can not leave anyone indifferent. The city of Compostela was developed from the construction of the Cathedral. Holy City together with Rome and Jerusalem attracts the Galician capital at any time of year thousands of pilgrims from around the world. From the top you see the city clearly.

The vision of the city was perfect. The sky was gray and leaden rain even more intense. But we wanted to continue watching unsurpassed beauty. Head, the view of the whole city. Left, the very extensive Nuns Convent-today 28-; behind, the big clock. Beyond, San Martín Palace, which also houses the Major Seminary of Santiago Diocesan Historical Archive; finally, under one of the apse continued explanations, ya a resguardo de la lluvia .

It's time to lose.

Ultimately, the next time you go to Compostela-well after performing all or part of the Pilgrim, simply visiting the- not stop going to the decks of the Cathedral. disappoint them not. Contemplate something new, and, If further, el tiempo acompaña la felicidad será total –aunque muchos opinan que Santiago de Compostela se aprecia en su estado más puro con frío y lluvia que con sol.

It is worth contemplating the beautiful Galician city from the decks of the Cathedral. Sin duda.

Jesus Pedreira Lodestone Bachelor of Law, Sociology and History

The day was typically de Compostela. Rain, cold wind and some. We arrived at the appointed time to Gelmírez Palace - in honor of the first Archbishop of Santiago, Diego Gelmírez (1059-1139) and promoter of the Cathedral-, next to the Cathedral of Santiago, actual sede Arzobispal.

The Correíllos were originally a sailing ships carrying the Spanish Postal Service mail between the Canary Islands and overseas whose first line opened in 1855 with the task of connecting the islands major commercial (Gran Canaria and Tenerife), two to three times per week. The frequency with the rest of the smaller islands (La Palma, Lanzarote, La Gomera, Fuerteventura, El Hierro) was reduced, and not forgetting, trade with Cuba and England, major trading partners

Isolation is a constant in the history of the Canary Islands.
The Correillo La Palma was built by W. Harkerss & Son Ltd., Middlesbrough and launching took place on 15 February 1.912. After the 10 April, came the 16 commanded by Captain D. Aurelio del Arco and after a stopover in Bremen arrived in Las Palmas 24 de ese mismo mes.
Later, en 1.930, Mail Steamship Company Interinsular Canarios was acquired by the Company Transmediterranea and other boats came to support veterans Correíllos. These new ships are carectirzaban by having a white hull and is precisely why, primitives so became known Correíllos “the black Correíllos”.
Only “La Palma” survived the scrapping, siendo protagonista de mil y una aventuras y vicisitudes diferentes.
So, being in the port of Arrecife, the 16 March 1.976 suffered a serious fault in one of its boilers. The next day he arrived in Las Palmas. Since that time I was already scheduled next decommissioning and taking into account the high cost of having the boiler repair, acabó amarrado al muelle de Las Palmas en espera de lo que se decidiera en cuanto a su futuro.
The 12 November of that year was acquired at public auction and the amount of a million and a half pesetas by Jürgen Flick, who intended to convert it into a museum, yacht club and casino-restaurant. However, Mr. Flick stumbled upon the endless bureaucracy and paperwork almost infinite obstacles that joined, impedimentos y objeciones de todo tipo que acabaron con su paciencia.
Then, the 6 December 1.982 Liverpool City Council agreed to buy Flick boat to make it public cultural center, and for this purpose a committee was formed. But this operation was never carried. The 6 February 1.985, sick and not knowing what to do with it, Flick provides the boat, free to the city of Las Palmas. Not answered. Insists. Nada.
Steam “La Palma” now belongs to the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, by Flick family donation, former owner of the ship, that he had offered to other agencies and entities to save the dismantling.

In the capital of Gran Canaria was founded the Friends of the steam “La Palma”, he tried to avoid at all costs the veteran out of his enclave ship, adding to it several political bodies of the island and other representations. Ultimately, day 13 March and in tow of Tamarán”, in good weather conditions, the steamship La Palma” inició su última singladura hacia el Puerto de Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Throughout history, La Orotava valley has had a major fascination for travelers and visitors to disembark on the island of Tenerife.

In his travels and voyages of discovery, multitude of figures relevant to European history and culture have passed through the north of Tenerife on the occasion of his stay on the island. Desde Humboldt, Book of y Darwin, from the scientific, a Richard Burton, between the explorers and adventurers, have had in their texts Canarian experience passing through this landscape, magnificando las peculiaridades del lugar.

Widespread travel habit that develops from the eighteenth century between layers with broader European population, first among the most educated of the aristocracy and then democratized and reach large segments of the bourgeoisie, Canary makes a target for commuting, although initially presenting an attractive secondary to other locations with most important cultural profiles and charm.

With the destruction of the port of Garachico in the eighteenth century, a result of a volcanic eruption, Puerto de la Cruz became the main port of the island serving as the basis for a flourishing trade in fruit and wine. According to several authors the first hikers came to the island on board steamers fruit companies.

German Couple Martianez Beach (1906)

From this attractive identifying generic, Puerto de la Cruz experienced a very important development in the early decades of the last century which led to the emergence of some hotel facilities, as hotels and Taoro Marquesa, which served as a shelter for the first waves of travelers who came to learn about the natural wonders and take advantage of the excellent conditions of the area for therapeutic bathing in the sea. These healing benefits spread throughout Europe which made the frequent visit proliferate people coming from abroad. Thus the Puerto de la Cruz left behind their business, motivated by the crisis in the export of wine and cochineal as well as the development of the port of Santa Cruz, to qualify the tourism phenomenon definitely. It would become, according to many authors, en la primera ciudad turística española.

The appearance in the years 60 intensive air transport and annual holidays among large sections of the European working population consolidated significant expectations regarding the possibility of attracting mass tourism Canary from the north of the continent.

Bañistas on the beach of Martiánez

Entire areas of Puerto de la Cruz were built with fast following a model too developmentalist, own mass tourism. This is the case Martíanez peninsula and successive developments of La Paz in the urban upper. However, the characteristic of Puerto de la Cruz and the whole of the Orotava valley along its development as a tourist destination has been the mix of infrastructure alojativas with residential buildings, forming some urban areas in which predominates a high rate of local population, being, moreover, esta característica uno de sus principales atractivos para los usuarios habituales y ocasionales.

Promotional Postcard years 70 with the hotels in the hills of Martíanez

Today it is a tourist destination in a worrying decline mainly due to the threat posed some territorial deals positioned on better alternatives that have been popping up in recent years. The Orotava Valley is, nowadays, a mature destination that just grows and, also, sufre la competencia dentro del archipiélago de otras áreas que cuentan con infraestructuras más modernas así como de otras regiones turísticas también relacionadas con el continente europeo que ofrecen los mismos recursos destinados hacia el turismo de sol y playa a unos precios más económicos y más agresivas en su promoción y calidad de servicios.

Current state of infrastructure in the peninsula hotel Martianez

For all these reasons we believe that the Puerto de la Cruz in the framework of the Orotava Valley needs a redefinition of resources to offer the visitor, undertaken owing to a strategic reorientation towards a specific tourism that encourages general renovation of this tourist destination. This renewal must be undertaken by a hand through the requalification of public space and tourist resources to support the activity, y por otro lado con la rehabilitación de las infraestructuras hoteleras y alojativas privadas existentes.

Logically, the basis of the above should focus on extensive research and cataloging of the natural, historical, etnográficos y culturales que permita documentar de una manera atractiva la tematización que se pueda ofrecer en este caso.

These places have a special reverence for the relationship with nature is probably the result of human interaction with geography.
Recently, I have posted some pictures of a particularly amazing, the Preikenstolen or rocky Pulpit, cercano a la pequeña ciudad de Stavanger situada en el fiordo del Lysef.

It is one of the greenest cities in the world, full of tree-lined squares and great parks, where we can find from the intimacy of the Chelsea Physic Garden to open spaces feral Hampstead Heath. It is said that we can cross much of central London walking through parkland, because in the city there are more than 1700 parques que cubren 200km2 .Cuando estas en ellos te da la impresión de que te encuentras en pleno campo.

Another aspect I like London is that each area has its own identity, differing from the rest, from buildings to the inhabitants. In this case the City east of the city, is the financial district of London, which mixes modern office buildings, banks epoche, The contrast in styles is what gives the City a personality. In the building on these lines corresponds to the famous Lloyd of London which is one of the most interesting modern buildings in the city with a combination of stainless steel and outer tubes, gives it a unique character, destacando verlo sobre todo de noche.

Another impressive building in the City is St. Mary Axe, which is the second highest in the city with 180 m height, them londinenses le el llaman pepinillo, en la foto highlight you but me gusta ,el hall de noche. Mientras if desmontaban them buildings of alrededor y if y trataba restore it protect historic facade, dieron cuenta los responsables if that damage them Estructurales eran mucho mayor de los think that when y en un primer dejaron insist en la del Reconstrucción building, construyendo el edificio actual.

On the other hand the city largely retains its period of greatest splendor mostly from the Victorian era, but after seeing so many buildings of this style find little touches of modern buildings ,en este caso es una librería a lado de la Catedral de San Paul donde el contraste a mi particularmente me gusta.

London is also known for its museums that contain a variety of treasures from around the world, in part the product of centuries of world trade front. By visiting the British Museum is said to be the oldest public exhibition of the world, truth worth, where you find nothing but enter the Great Court, diseñada por Norman Foster con una cubierta ligera de cristal.

Another museum that I liked was the Sir Joh Soane's Museum where the famous architect donated on condition not change anything, and the truth is preserved exactly as two centuries ago, where to go from room to room, is full of architectural surprises, decorated with many classical sculptures that receive light through small glass domes. Contains many drawings and modelos de sus proyectos y las colecciones de pinturas y antigüedades que él consiguió reunir.

Another museum much more now is the Tate Modern which is aa banks of the Thames and occupies the transformed Bankside Power Station in a very dynamic which houses an important collection of contemporary art, yo destacaría sobre todo el impresionante hall diseñado y rehabilitado por los arquitectos suizos.

The truth when it came to go to this European capital did not go with high expectations, when I returned I came to the conclusion that it was worth…..

I think the pictures speak for themselves in this great country. However, comentaré algunas de ellas.

Begin this visual journey Poitiers. The church of Notre Dame la Grande I liked and did not know. A magnificent example of Romanesque architecture had to influence the further development of that style along the Camino de Santiago, entering Spain. Lo mejor sus interiores policromados.

This is a view of the island of Ré, off the port of La Rochelle.

The Royale Park Corderie. A spectacular landscape architect Bernard Lassus.

Siguiendo con of theme of "cuaderno de viajes", voy a relatar algunas cosas curiosas que aprendí in me viaje a Italia by este verano. Fue un recorrido for out of Norte de Italia, desde Roma quick los Lagos, pero themselves llegar a la costa, salvo Venecia.
Entre Florence y Bologna aparece una Cordillera mountain, Apenino Coarse-Emiliano, que separa The Tuscany (to about) y the Llanura padana (to Norte).
From Landscape of Tuscany está training for suaves colinas tapizadas con cultivos, principalmente of vid y olives. Los caminos suelen estar flanked by cipreses. Los pueblos medievales if placed in housing height of las colinas y are walled, by ejemplo San Gimignano or Monteriggione.

It is a vast plain bounded on the south by the Apennine Tosco Emiliano and north of the Alps. From east to west is crossed by an ancient road: The Via Aemilia, a Roman road built in the 187 A.C. ranging from Rimini, on the Adriatic coast, to Piacenza, cerca de Milán.
Although there are also quite agriculture, the main economic engine is industry.
In Bologna, in the Middle Ages, political power passed into the hands of the noble families. Here also was customary to build towers wealthier families. When a family fell into disgrace, cut the tower and killed the family. Currently there are two towers: Asinelli and Garisenda. Both are inclined and more petite she was taller than the other but the family was ruined and ...

Some palaces have large iron rings on their facades. It seems that had served to tie the horses, but not: were to tie the boats as, oddly enough, Bologna was filled channels, like Venice, y aún quedan unos pocos.
In Verona, the most spectacular is its Roman amphitheater, built in the first century and still offers shows. We had the opportunity to attend a lyrical play at night and is awesome. The pity is that half of the work it was raining and suspended the function.

San Gimignano has many towers, which were built by rival families during the twelfth and thirteenth, when the location of the city on the pilgrimage route to Rome provided him great prosperity. How much was a family rich, más alta hacía construir su torre.
Monteriggione was built in 1203. It is surrounded by high walls with 11 fortified towers. Inside there are only two streets, a square and a Romanesque church.
