By observing the Wassily Chair, created between 1925 and 1927, Marcel Breuer (Hungary 1902-New York1981) not easy to understand at a glance what we have before our eyes. One possible interpretation is that it can be a chair whose design is based on the handlebars of a bicycle. However, and oddly enough, the undoubted attractiveness and beauty that emanates from this piece continues today to be a benchmark of furniture design. Is, we appreciate also that is clearly evident the architect line of work.
Of course it should be noted, what was then a novel choice of core material, the metal tube. With him, Breuer, surprising dared to 1925 the conservative German society following the line opened by the Bauhaus, inspired by his newly acquired bike Adler. A concept that continued to be used repeatedly throughout his career how architect and designer and how that marked forever the whole aesthetic of his later.
I have always believed that, own beyond, materials and techniques intrinsic meaning. In this case also, are typical of this important school of art, design and architecture that was the German Bauhaus. For me this piece widely summarizes those design philosophy concepts that emerged then.

Now, today, another brilliant designer, Portugal's Rui Alves surprises us with the chair Tour de France, another good example of the mix of craftsmanship and industrial design. Another piece also based on the same concepts that inspired the German master.
